Anna Kendrick opened up about her newest role in the film adaptation of the off-Broadway musical The Last Five Years, saying that she wept when she initially read the script.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Pitch Perfect star opened up about how she emotional this film will be for her.
Jason Robert Brown’s 2001 musical will be adapted into an indie film written and directed by Richard LaGravenese. Kendrick will star alongside Smash star Jeremy Jordan in the film.
Kendrick admits that she originally did not listen to the cast recording before receiving the script but she did recognize the name of the writer.
“Parade is my favorite musical of all time, and I think that Jason Robert Brown is an absolute genius, and so many people told me to listen to this recording and see the show, and for some reason it just never happened,” she said.
“It wasn’t until I got this script and saw that it was Jason Robert Brown that I even familiarized myself with the material,” Kendrick continued. “I wept my way through the script before I ever heard the music, and then the next morning I woke up and re-read the script while I listened to the recording and I was just an absolute mess because it’s so beautiful.”
When Kendrick was 12, she was nominated for her first Tony Award. It’s no surprise her theater background is coming full-circle back into her life within film – like in the musical Pitch Perfect which she recently agreed to appear in the sequel to. However, this doesn’t mean she wants to go back to the stage.
“I know I shouldn’t admit this, but it’s not like it’s some big secret – I just could not sing The Last Five Years eight times a week,” she said.
New Pitch Perfect 2 totally in the works,Anna Kendrick & Rebel Wilson returning & more. According to a recent report from The Hollywood Reporter, the new “Pitch Perfect 2″ movie is totally going to happen, and they’re bringing back the main superstars, Anna Kendrick aka Beca and Rebel Wilson!
Also Hunger Games actress, Elizabeth Banks, will be directing the follow-up. She produced the first one, but now, she’ll be directing. The first movie brought in great numbers, grossing more than $115 million dollars ,worldwide, on a $17 million dollar budget, so it definitely paid Universal Pictures back in spades.
It also did very well in ancillary markets by generating roughly $135 million dollars in physical and digital home entertainment sales across North America to date, making it one of the top-performing DVD and VOD titles of 2013. If that weren’t enough, the soundtrack was also very successful, going platinum with over 1 million units sold while single Cups went nearly triple platinum with combined sales of a little less than 3 million units sold.
Universal Pictures’ chairman, Donna Langley, stated, Elizabeth Banks ” brings an enormous amount of energy and experience to everything she works on and we’re thrilled that she is making her feature directorial debut on Pitch Perfect 2.” The movie is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters in the Summer 2015.

“Pitch Perfect” star Anna Kendrick isn’t one of those troubled Hollywood actresses who shows up to work in a state of intoxication, so when her producers slipped her real beer while shooting a scene for her new film, “Drinking Buddies,” she says she accidentally got drunk — and didn’t like it.
“During a scene at the bar, they gave me fake beer, but then during a scene where I’m playing cards…they gave me real beer and I didn’t realize it! And so every time I lost, I was pounding beer…I didn’t realize it was real until halfway through the take. I was like, ‘I’m super drunk right now!’ And so as soon as the take was over, I had to announce to everybody that I was drunk at work,” Kendrick explained to Vulture yesterday, calling the experience “very, very bizarre.”
Kendrick recently told “GQ” that she is a beer drinker, noting that she enjoys “every single Belgian-style beer,” but that doesn’t mean she was expecting to end up drunk on the set.
“I’m sure you’ve never been drunk in the middle of your job, but it is uncomfortable,” she explained.
Kendrick says, though, it all worked out in the end — “Drinking Buddies” was filmed without a script, which Kendrick said was a challenge.
“It worked in the scene, and so it was helpful for them,” Kendrick noted, “but I mostly found it really unnerving.”
